Once I interviewed poet Robert Pinsky. It happened to be a few days after Sept. 11, 2001. He wisely observed that very little worthwhile art comes in the immediate aftermath of a traumatic event. He was right. The best post-9/11 literature emerged many months and years after the fact. Even with all that, my sketchbook asked me to calm the hell down about Harambe today and just draw, so I did. What sketchbooks are for, I guess.
