Spent some time at the Ingenuity Festival Saturday and Sunday. This is a new-ish summer thing in Cleveland that celebrates art and technology. There isn't too much just-plain-art, but lots of art with a techno beat, if you get my drift.
I did a few drawings. I'll post the others later.
I will say that when I heard about the idea of a sky filled with red balloons, I thought it sounded terrific. Alas, this was one of those ideas that fell a bit flat. There might have once been 99 red balloons, as planned, but by the time I got there Saturday afternoon it merely looked like three or four clowns had gotten drunk and accidentally let go of their tethers.
Such is art. As I well know, nothing works all the time.

This was, without question, the best story in the newspaper today. If you think of yourself as a screen writer and you don't at least stop to contemplate the movie that could be made from this, you should sell real estate. (And now that I'm on the topic, I know a real estate person or two who should be writing screen plays. But that's another story.)

Our shore vacation is already retreating into memory, but even these quick sketches bring back the experience for me. I did the top one while we were waiting for lunch in this cool-looking little restaurant in Cape May. Turned out to be better in looks than in service, and if C and L look bored here it's because we had quite a wait for our food. Still ... so nice.
I've mentioned before that I love sketching people on the beach, and the more imperfect their bodies the more interesting they are to draw. I was annoyed with myself after adding the profile of K with her sunglasses to that second page; having screwed up the position of, well, everything, it kind of wrecked what was otherwise a nice page. But you know my theory on just tossing up my mistakes for all to see. :)
